SHINUI - Relational Consulting Center is a not-for-profit association created in January 2000 with the objective of creating a professional cultural center for practitioners working within the domain of human relations and the professions of care. Created by Cecilia Edelstein, (the current director), Shinui and its staff, have developed over these last 20 years an approach known as the "Systemic-Pluralistic approach" that blends multiple strands of competing systemic approaches.

 The Association intends to promote thought and debate on the following themes:

  • Human systems;
  • Families;
  • Intercultural Communication;
  • Non-violent solutions to conflict and suffering;
  • Attaching value to differences;
  • Promoting dialogue and conversations;
  • Migratory phenomena.

Particular emphasis is dedicated to the opening of a dialogue on interaction of different sectors (psycho-social health, education and legal) in courses and research that aim to develop new ideas in interdisciplinary discussions. The emphasis prioritizes training action, participation, the organisation of seminars and conferences at the national and international levels relevant to the systemic-pluralist approach. The Shinui association operates a school of Systemic-pluralistic counselling, founded in 1999, which awards diplomas enabling graduates to register at the National AssoCounseling Register (the relevant professional association), and prides itself on the collaboration of pioneers in Family Therapy such as Salvador Minuchin and Maurizio Andolfi.

The course in specialization in counseling, mediation and intercultural therapy was launched in 2004 and is a unique concept in Italy, bringing together counselor, mediator and psychotherapist, and building a synergy that addresses the issues within different professions in the modern intercultural setting and including the theme of migration. Along with this Shinui offers, since 2007, a bi-yearly course on Systemic Family Mediation, which is recognised by AIMS (International Association of Systemic Mediators). Shinui operates over the whole Italian territory through its professional training activities in the public service, the private sector and the private social care sector. The development of psychosocial educational projects aims to improve the quality of life in the city and its surroundings.

Particular emphasis is given to qualitative research and research actions. Shinui believes in the dissemination of knowledge and is involved in documenting new ideas and experiences. The column "Dialogs and conversations with Shinui" offers valuable insights in the principal seminars produced each year.
